3 Skypephone - going mobile with Skype

Eric Lagier, Director of Business Development Mobile at Skype

One shouldn't really trust rumors. But we heard plenty of them in October and in this case, they weren't too far from the truth. On October 28, in tandem with the mobile operator 3, Skype launched a new mobile phone called 3 Skypephone. One that lets you make free Skype-to-Skype calls and send free Skype instant messages from anywhere. Not just from the desktop, not just from the office. From anywhere.

As pioneers in the original Skype Developer Program, WebDialogs, gives businesses powerful tools to collaborate in real time and conduct high-impact voice, video, and web conference calls. Unyte, our flagship product, is powerfully simple and easy to use, especially for non-technical entrepreneurs who need to focus on making their businesses succeed without having to set up elaborate multimedia collaboration sessions for customers, investors, employees, or other audiences. Our basic version can be used for small to medium size companies, and a professional version with many more features for large corporations.

New Extras

Timegram Message Scheduler
If you're one of those people who would forget their head if it wasn't screwed on, then you're going to love this extra. Timegram lets you pre-write chat or SMS message and then sends them at the time you specify. Simply load your Skype contacts and then choose whether you want to send your message once, daily, weekly, monthly or yearly. You can schedule Skype birthdays and upload your Facebook birthday list so you won't forget anyone's special day again!

RemoteX
RemoteX is a very simple remote desktop sharing extra. After installation, you choose which of your buddies you want to share with, then they install the extra after receiving an invitation from you. At that point, you decide whether you just want to show your desktop or whether you share your keyboard, mouse or both. They then can have complete control of your desktop until you disconnect it from them. You can also request for your buddy to share their desktop with you.

Skype 3.6 and Skype4Py 0.9.28.5

The biggest overall news this month is that Skype 3.6 for Windows is finally out in the wild, boasting much improved video capabilities and even more improved stability, but only a relatively small list of additions to the Public API (Skype 3.6. ReleaseNotes).
Quoting Raul Riive: "Skype 3.6 is the best and the greatest release this year." Next month will hopefully start bringing in first specifics of what new API goodies will get implemented in version 4.0.
