Show me the money – welcome to the new Skype Developer newsletter!Hello. I am Paul Amery, the new Director of Skype Developer Program (SDP). Previous to Skype I led Symbian's Developer Network, and prior to that I created OrangePartner.com. You can guess that I love working with developers. My job, and that of my team is simple: to help you succeed in developing with Skype and create more usage and more users as a result. We do this through the delivery of 3 programs... |

Technical update: COM wrappers for IE and Firefox®Skype4COM is a wrapper to the Skype API that enables you to develop applications for Skype using familiar languages and tools. The COM library represents the Skype API as objects, with properties, commands, events, and notifications. With Skype4COM, you can program for Skype in any ActiveX environment, such as Visual Studio and Delphi, and use a range of scripting languages, such as Visual Basic, JavaScript, and PHP. Read more about COM for Firefox and Internet Explorer Last minute update: Silent Skype The latest beta release (2.6.0.84) of Skype includes new API commands: SET SILENT_MODE {ON |OFF} This simple command offers powerful opportunities to develop games and other applications to use Skype without interruptions from the client by hiding and showing the Skype UI Coming soon: New Extras Gallery
We will shortly be upgrading the Extras Gallery to 1.5 giving you better visibility to consumers and more control over your submission. Some of the new improvements include, the ability to filter on operating systems, no more having to browse though hundreds of application while looking for a MAC application. The new system will also support TAGS so you will be able to create your own customizable TAGS to help with user searches, and you will be able to upload up to 4 images with your application. Sharing is good: Use our Icons
On September 1st, Skype made the icons and strings used in the Skype Client user interface available to external developers under a permissive copyright license. Skype has always been passionate about delighting our users. And since the users of Skype-enabled applications are also Skype users, we have decided that it’d be good to allow our entire developer community to use the same user interface components that we use in our own software. So, as of beginning of this month, more than 2600 strings in 27 languages, and over 100 icons in 5 sizes are available at Skype Developer Zone under the all-new Skype Component License. |
