What are Skype bots and how do I add them as contacts?

    Back to search results

Bots are artificially intelligent programs that you can chat with in Skype. Simply select the bot and start typing.

A Skype certified bot, like the What's New bot, lets you know about new features and announcements for Skype right in your chat. Skype certified bots have a square profile picture, a certified checkmark, and are available in all languages.

Can I block or remove Skype certified bots, like the What's New bot?
You cannot block or remove the What's new bot but you can opt out of the announcements.

    To opt out:

    1. From Chats, select your profile picture.
    2. Select Settings button Settings.
    3. Select Notifications button Notifications.
    4. Turn the toggle for Tips & Tricks off. You can turn the notifications back on at any time.

Note: When you opt out of Tips & Tricks, you'll no longer receive in app notifications about Skype features. However, you will continue to receive critical system notifications.

To find a bot, use Search within Skype.

    On mobile:

    1. From Chats, tap the new chat button New Chat button.
    2. Use the Search field to find the bot.

    On desktop:

    1. From Chats, select the new chat button New Chat button.
    2. Select New Chat, then use the Search field to find the bot.

You can block or remove a bot the same way you would a regular Skype contact. Get help with blocking or removing a contact.

If you want to report feedback on a specific bot, contact the bot developer directly. You'll find the name of the developer in the 'created by' section of the bot's profile.
